The Restart Centre

As you may have seen on Instagram our founder, Lucy, spent a week in August volunteering at Restart Africa, a children’s home located outside Gilgi, in Kenya. Opened in 2014, Restart Africa is now home to over a hundred children, most of whom have experienced severe trauma and violence in their early lives.

She, and her childhood friend and daughter, ran art workshops, read and played with the children, giving them one to one adult attention, which so many of them never experience. Many of the kids that arrive take a while to smile and settle in, but the Centre is now full of happy, joyful, conscientious and ambitious children. “The children were a total joy, inspiring and it was a privilege to spend time with them. Where they have come from, and where they are now is incredible”, says Lucy.

The Centre is entirely funded by donations. It gives the children an education and a safe and healthy environment to grow and flourish in.

In Kenya education is not free so Restart pays all the children’s school fees. Some of Aspiga’s sandals and jewellery, are made by the Santana Women’s Group. All of the profits from the Group go directly to The Restart Centre.
