Aspiga & BCorp: Celebrating 20 Years

Turns out we are sharing our 20th birthday with some very good company…

In 2026, Aspiga officially enters its twenties at the same time as the global B Corp movement: two decades of championing purpose, progress, and doing business a little differently.

Back in 2006, while 82 pioneering businesses in the US were helping launch what would become the global B Corp movement, Aspiga was beginning its own story too. Founded by Lucy Macnamara, the brand was built on a belief that fashion could be both beautiful and responsible.

Twenty years later, it feels pretty special that Aspiga and the B Corp movement are celebrating this milestone side by side.

What makes this milestone even more meaningful is how closely our journeys align. Both Aspiga and B Corp were founded on the idea that success should be measured by more than profit alone. From the very beginning, there was a belief that businesses have the power to create positive change — whether that is through supporting communities, protecting the environment, or simply making better choices every day.

Today, the B Corp movement includes more than 10,500 Certified B Corporations across 104 countries and over 160 industries, including more than 2,700 businesses here in the UK alone. From sustainable fashion brands to global organisations, B Corps are united by one simple idea: business should be a force for good.

Which, obviously, feels very Aspiga.

Long before sustainable fashion became an industry buzzword, we were focused on creating timeless pieces designed to last, supporting artisan makers, and building ethical supply chains rooted in craftsmanship and community.

Over the last twenty years, we have watched the fashion industry change dramatically. Conversations that once felt niche — around ethical production, sustainable fabrics, transparency, and conscious consumption — have become central to how many people shop today. It is encouraging progress, but it is also a reminder that meaningful change happens when businesses and consumers move forward together.

So becoming a Certified B Corporation was never about ticking a box. It was about formalising the values that had already shaped the brand from day one.

Because being a B Corp is not just about sustainability. It is about accountability, transparency, and responsibility. It means meeting rigorous standards across everything from environmental impact and governance to workers’ rights and ethical production.

Certification is also not a one-time achievement. B Corps are regularly reassessed and encouraged to continually improve, helping ensure that the movement remains focused on genuine impact rather than good intentions alone. It is this commitment to progress that makes being part of the B Corp community so valuable — and it is a philosophy that has always felt very natural to us at Aspiga.

After all, Aspiga's story began with people.

Before there were organic cotton dresses, linen collections, or EcoVero™ styles, there were beautifully handcrafted Kenyan sandals, belts, and jewellery. Founder Lucy Macnamara was inspired by the incredible artistry she discovered while travelling in Kenya and set out to share that craftsmanship with a wider audience. Twenty years later, those relationships remain at the heart of who we are.

Today, we continue to work with family-run workshops and skilled artisans in Kenya and India, many of whom have been part of the Aspiga journey for years. Their craftsmanship, expertise, and dedication help bring our collections to life, from hand-beaded sandals and belts to beautifully detailed clothing and accessories.

For us, sustainability has always been about people as much as products. Through long-term partnerships, fair wages, safe working conditions, and ongoing support for local communities, we strive to create positive impact beyond the clothes themselves. We are incredibly proud that many of the artisan techniques used by our makers continue to preserve traditional skills and craftsmanship that have been passed down through generations.

And while we are incredibly proud to be part of the B Corp community, we also know the work is never "done". Sustainability is not a finish line — it is an ongoing process of learning, evolving, and making better choices wherever we can.

As customers continue to move away from fast fashion and toward more conscious consumption, we are seeing a real shift toward buying better, wearing longer, and investing in timeless wardrobes — something we have always believed in wholeheartedly.

At Aspiga, that means continuing to prioritise sustainable fabrics like linen, organic cotton, EcoVero™ viscose, and recycled materials, while designing collections intended to be worn season after season.

It also means remaining committed to the people behind our products. From artisan partners and skilled makers to the wider communities we work with, people have always been at the heart of Aspiga. Sustainability is about much more than materials alone — it is about creating lasting positive impact throughout the entire supply chain.

To celebrate B Corp turning 20, B Lab has released a special-edition 2026 Impact Report, bringing together reflections from founders, leaders, changemakers, and businesses who have helped shape the movement over the last two decades. It is hopeful, honest, and a brilliant reminder of the power of community and collective progress.

The report looks back on two decades of challenging traditional business models and asks an important question: what happens next? As the movement continues to grow, the focus is increasingly on raising standards, driving greater accountability, and proving that purpose-led businesses can thrive while creating positive change.

Aspiga would not be here twenty years later without the customers who have chosen to support a more sustainable way of shopping, the makers who bring our collections to life, and the team who continue to push us forward every day. Every purchase, every conversation, and every step towards more conscious fashion has helped shape the brand we are today.

So as we celebrate turning 20 alongside the global B Corp movement, we mostly just want to say thank you. To our customers, makers, partners, and team members — thank you for supporting Aspiga over the last two decades and for continuing to believe that fashion can look good, feel good, and do good too.

Twenty feels (and looks) good on us.

Thanks for being part of the aspiga story, the best is yet to come...
