COUNTRY LIVING

1. You’ve dedicated your life to wellness, writing, and women’s health. What originally sparked your passion for wellbeing?

It began with curiosity - and necessity. After struggling with skin issues in my teens and
early twenties, I realised how powerful lifestyle choices can be. Eating more of the healthier
fats and less of the sugars completely changed my eczema-prone skin and I became
fascinated by the links between what we eat, how we live, and how we feel. That discovery lit a lifelong fire…

2. You’re an outspoken advocate for menopause awareness and midlife empowerment. What’s one myth you’re determined to break?

That it’s all downhill from here. Midlife can and should be a powerful time of reinvention
and renewed vitality, once we understand what’s happening hormonally and take back the
reins. It’s not the end - it’s a new beginning. Provided we have the right hormonal support
(informed access to HRT, should we decide to replace our lost hormones) and some simple, sensible lifestyle choices, such as eating more protein, fewer carbs and lifting a few weights.

3. Aspiga is rooted in sustainability and conscious living. What does ‘sustainable living’ look like in your everyday life?

It’s about making mindful choices - buying less but better, supporting ethical brands,
championing those who do it well (like Aspiga), repurposing, and also growing some of my own food. My small veg garden easily produces enough for my family in the summer and autumn, and I pickle and freeze a glut of anything leftover for the garden’s leaner month’s. I think sustainability starts with respect: for the planet, for the people who make our products, and for our future.

4. You’ve written over 35 books—what keeps you creatively energised, and how do you choose what to explore next?

I simply follow what I’m genuinely curious about. If a topic grabs me - especially if it has
the potential to help others - I’ll dive in. I stay energised by staying connected to real
women’s stories and always being a student myself. I love my work and am grateful every
day for the opportunities it brings me and others, the chance to learn – and share.

5. Your work often weaves science with nature and tradition. How do you personally find balance in today’s fast-moving world?

I step outside first thing every day, no matter where I am, often barefoot, and let nature
ground me. Even if I’m in a city I’ll head out early to get some daylight into my eyes to set
up my circadian rhythm for the day ahead – and maybe even go barefoot on the pavement! I also carve out quiet rituals: a calm cup of tea, a walk, or simply switching off all devices for half an hour. Balance isn’t static; it’s something we recalibrate daily.

6. What advice would you give to women looking to reclaim their confidence in midlife and beyond?

Start by tuning in to what you truly need - not what others expect. Knowledge is power,
especially around hormonal changes. Surround yourself with positivity, stay curious, and
remember: confidence isn’t about perfection, it’s about authenticity and being true to
yourself.
