CARING FOR YOUR NEW KNITWEAR

At Aspiga, we encourage you to look after your favourite staples to help extend their lifecycle year after year. As with all high quality woollens, do please take care when washing your new item. To help you care for your new favourite piece of knitwear, we have put together a guide below.

1. SOAK YOUR GARMENT

  • Turn your wool garment inside out, then hand wash in clean, lukewarm water, using a mild and gentle detergent.
  • Allow to soak for a period of 10 minutes, with little to no agitation.

2. REMOVE EXCESS WATER

  • Rinse thoroughly, firstly in lukewarm water, then finally in cold water.
  • Use a gentle squeeze to extract excess water. The garment will still retain water, and will be heavy.
  • Then roll the garment in a dry towel, to remove excess water.
  • Do not spin in a washing machine.

3. DRY THE ITEM NATURALLY

  • Allow the garment to dry in the air naturally. Do not use a tumble dryer.
  • Always flat dry wool jumpers or other knitwear. Do not line dry or dry on hangers, as this will cause knitted garment to stretch and lose its shape due to the weight of the moisture contained by the garment.
  • Carefully place your wet garment on a flat surface to dry - we recommend it is placed on a pale coloured towel, and one which is free from lint.
  • Special garment drying mesh screens can also be used, which are designed to fit over the bath to allow for dripping.
  • Gently knead it by hand into shape and size, and remove as many creases or folds as possible.

4. COMB, CARE...REWEAR

As much as we love the feeling of a brand new piece of clothing, we at Aspiga also encourage you to look after your favourite staples and extend their lifecycle year after year.

We suggest using our knitwear comb to keep your Aspiga jumpers free of piling, ensuring your cosy pieces will be bobble free and looking fabulous for longer. Find out more about our knitwear comb here.

Although it is not the most sustainable option, if you would prefer, you can also dry clean your garment.
